Minella Stars to unchain shackles in Welcome Back Sean Dooner Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot
Minella Stars is a consistent chaser, but things have become somewhat frustrating for him these days. Over the past few months, the Paul Nicholls-trained has run several good races without much success.
Luck seems to be running away from him, as he was runner-up on his last three starts. He is certainly under enormous pressure following a few unlucky rides, and needs something different in order to sway things in his favour.
Yet, the bettors should not be reluctant to take a chance on him in the Welcome Back Sean Dooner Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot on Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Owned by Mrs Johnny de la Hey, the 7-year-old has plenty in favour back in Handicap Company, and
this could finally be his happy moment.
Barring lack of ability to add the finishing touch, Minella Stars had everything in hand on his previous few outings. On his latest start at Worcester, he did nothing wrong in the hands of Harry Skelton.
He at one stage was in total command, but failed to retain his advantage all the way through. Staying on one pace refrained him from presenting a challenge to the leader and as a result, he ended up second by four and a half lengths.
The recent stats are enough to suggest that there is no problem with his current rhythm. Only an extra effort is required to avoid further embarrassment.
Come What Augustus could pose a massive threat. After a couple of unlucky rides at the start of this season, Richard Woollacott’s trainee finally put his journey on the winning track here last time.
The spectators saw him justifying his highest odds of 15 to 8. He raced idly in the final stages, but always held off the rival. With the help of a fantastic act, the 10-year-old son of Mujahid seized the top rank by a length’s distance.
A recent strike would have boosted up his confidence significantly, but an even improved act is needed to thrive this time. Today’s race is surely a lot favourable for Minella Stars. He is open to improvement in handicap company, and should be preferred.
Good luck to all the horses.
