  1. This question is too broad. It would take an entire book to explain. Using layman's term. Rock beds are formed differently, some are formed from sedimentation and pressure (sedimentary rock), some are by cooling of magma (igneous rock), some are formed through baking action by igneous rock mass (metamorphic rock). Because these different types of rock beds are formed differently (by pressure or heat or other method), their composition is also different. For example: there are very little radioactive material like uranium near earth's surface. One major source is from meteorite (that's how they think a meteor impact wiped out the dinosaurs), another source is actually from earth's core. These materials flows out along with magma. Therefore, rock formed from magma may contain different materials or at least different percentage/ratio of materials than rock formed from sedimentation. When water sieve through these rock, it washes minerals off these rock types and form mineral rock inside rock cavities.

The website below would explain in more details, but it only touch the most basics. If you want to know more, read a book on mineralogy.
