Mineralogist finally tasting victory after a span of two years in the Saratoga Dew Stakes
It was a long wait, but it finally came to an end as Mineralogist ended her two year long winless streak in the $75,000 Saratoga Dew Stakes on 29 August, 2011 at Saratoga.
It seemed as if Mineralogist is doomed to keep the winless streak growing as she was bogged down on the rail, travelling fine but the hole she nearing could’ve ended the hope right there.
The highly prone to injury, 4-year-old John Kimmel trained filly under jockey David Cohen finally managed to grind out a result after two long years, but the victory tasted a lot sweeter because how the pair persevered in tough conditions.
Despite heavy traffic, David Cohen skillfully guided the filly looking for little pockets of spaces that he could take advantage of advance in the race.
The pair was able to find their feet once again and resumed business, fighting hard and bravely to grind out a massive result by downing three other opponents by a head, defeating the highly favourite Bankers Buy.
Daughter of Mineshaft, out of Seeking the Ante by Seeking the Gold, Mineralogist have been consistently finish fourth in her last three races.
All these races were run over a distance of 1 mile, starting with Chase the Dream at Aqueduct on 13 April, 2011 under jockey E Prado.
Next up was an Allowance race at Belmont Park on dirt under jockey David Cohen for 3 year and older fillies, finally again at Belmont Park dirt in Miss South Shore Stakes on 17 July, 2011.
This time around in the Saratoga Dew Stakes, the agility of the jockey paid dividends for owners Chester Broman and Mary Broman, when he settled the filly at the rail for about six and a half lengths.
Spa City Princess mainly blame for setting a slow pace, but cleverly Mineralogist inch closer to her target and at the same point saved some serious ground.
Rallied off on the inside before got a clear run in the mid stretch as she dropped nearly two lengths of the lead and under strong urging from Cohen the filly ended up the best between the horses in 1 minute and 53.11 seconds.
