Mingtian Fu casts out Yin Fun Lim to make into quarter-finals of Singapore International Series
The spirited Women’s Singles expert Mingtian Fu earned the right to be in top eight shuttlers of Li-Ning Singapore International Series after overpowering Yin Fun Lim on Thursday, August 16, 2012.
This pre quarter-final round battle kept both contenders head-to-head for 50 minutes before resolving with 14-21, 21-13 and 21-9 margin.
Mingtian Fu, who is top ranked female player of the tournament, displayed impeccable fighting skills as she got down in very first set but managed to save some honour by ruling the court in last two games.
On the other hand, Yin Fun was sheer disappointment as she put in a below par performance and squandered her initial advantage in crucial moments of the match.
The lower ranked but talented Malaysian shuttler showed her panache in opening game and pocketed a vital match point.
She kick-started her progress with couple of uninterrupted points and then maintained this momentum all the way to game point situation.
In first half, she mounted pressure by dominating her rival in the opening rallies. She capitalised this early advantage and placed an indomitable total of 11 before the interval.
After mid-game break, Yin Fun looked in prime touch as he did not give her opponent even a single counter-attack opportunity and bagged first set with 21-14 score on the board.
However, she could not withstand the intensive backlash of the Singaporean campaigner in second set and surrendered tamely.
This time it was Mingtian’s turn to proceed. She launched a brisk attack and confined her challenger in the rear court.
She proved her supremacy both technically and tactically and the opposing shuttler did not have any reply to her unbeatable strategy.
Yin Fun kept trailing behind her competitor and gave up this futile chase after reading an indomitable total of 13-21.
Third set was supposed to be a competitive tussle but it proved a dead contest as Mingtian Fu sent the Malaysian girl to packing with a flurry of masterly crafted strokes which ultimately fetched a splendid 21-9 win for her.
Now she is scheduled to meet Chochuwong Pornpawee in round of eight of this International Series.
