Mini DV Camcorder problems (Please Help!!)?

Question

Hi, well there is some problems with my DV Camcorder. The problem is it chews the tape, I took the tape out and the camcorder chewed the tape, then I put a new tape in and the playback had lines through it , what do you think is the problem?

Please help me, is it a major problem or does it need a clean or something?

- buy a cleaning cassette, clean vcam heads

- before recording on a new cassette, fast forward & rewind first before recording

- before playback of old stocked recorded tape, fast forward & rewind first before recording
