Mini DV camcorder can olnly do live recording wit firewire not see already taken videos and pics. Why?

I have a samsung s2-dc82 camcorder or something like that. I have a built in ieee1394 card and have a firewire cable. I connected it to the camcorder and a little window came up and it said what folder to import to.(there was not windows movie maker as an option) then i just chose desktop and all i saw was a live recording. how do i see the videos and pics that are on the tape on my camcorder? please urgent help? pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze?

Put the camcorder in "Play" or "VCR" mode.
