Mini DV camcorder problems?

My mini DV camcorder has recently had problems playing back what Ive recorded. A few days ago I noticed it was making a wired sound but I throt it was nothing, then just today I inserted a tape in the camcorder and again it made funny noises then chewed the tape just a little. I tried putting another tape in and it worked I mean it dint chew the tape or anything, Then I recorded some test footage which seemed ok then played it back and there were all these lines through the playback then it told me to eject the tape like it did with the first tape, only this time it didn't chew it.

Could anybody help me with this problem? thanks...

sounds like your heads need cleaning.

get a non abrusive head cleaning cassette (min dv) and play in the unit for around 15 seconds.

place an OLD tape into your machine again and see if it chews.

if it does, i think the camcorder might be on its last legs. two options, repair or replace. replacement may actually be cheaper consider huge drop in prices nowdays.
