Mini DvCanon ZR600 direct connection problem?

Well I'm trying to make stopmotion movies, but when I connect my MiniDv camera to my computer via USB it doesn't give me a direct connection. I can only get stuff off my memory card on the camera.

That's good - it means things are working correctly!  The video from a MiniDV camcorder has to be captured via firewire - as you've already discovered, the USB connection is only for stills.  You''ll need to buy and install a firewire card if your PC doesn't already have one - they're cheap, readily available and easy to install.

I had this same exact problem yesterday.  I was using a USB cord too and it wasn't working.  I was told that I need the Firewire cable to connect my camcorder to the computer.  It didn't come with my camcorder, so I had to borrow it from a friend.  But yeah you need a Firewire cable so it will work.
