Question:

Mini SUV for Beginning Driver?

by  |  earlier

My parents have decided (now that I have gotten my license) that I should drive myself to school next year, thus I would need a car of my own, to get there!

The thing is I HATE driving small cars, and so whatever car I get has to be a bit higher of the ground (but no vans or trucks!)

My parents refuse to buy me a new car (guess they're not too confident in my driving skills yet! :) ) and they want to find me a cheap, used car that will still fit my criteria (Higher up, automatic, and not too ugly!)

So I looked into Kia Sportages (I love them!) and that's about the size/style of a car I would like. Are there any other kinds of "mini SUVs" that might fit my criteria so that I could start looking around at some other options?

Thanks so much!

  1. toyota highlander

  2. 1995-2005 chevy blazer 4 door. GREAT mini SUV.

  3. of course there are other great mini/Midsized SUV's out there.

Some of my favorite SUV's are:

    Honda CR-V

    Toyota Rav-4

    Honda Element

    Toyota Highlander

    Ford Escape

    Hyundai Santa-Fe

    Nissan Murano

And have you looked at a hatchback? its like a mini suv, but a bit smaller. They seem like they'd be the perfect option for you, with gas prices being as high as they are.

    Good hatchbacks are:

    Mazda 3

    VW Rabbit

    Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe

    Good Luck!

  4. You might want to look at the Hyundai Tuscon.  It is a relatively small SUV, nice looking and fairly inexpensive.

    Look here...

Those are the new ones, but they have been around for a while and it should be easy to find a used one in your area.  I have the larger model, the Santa Fe, and I LOVE it.  It has been a great car.  It is very good in the snow, which is important here.  May not be important for you!!  Check it out!

  5. Nissean Xterra. Very nice and sporty have a lift to them. I know a few people that have them and they love it.

  6. I would go with a 2004 jeep liberty, they stopped making them new, and they sell for under $10,000 almost everywhere. They are definately the right size for what you want.

  7. idk if its a "mini" SUV but i drive a Poniac Aztec and i love it! i just got my liscense couple months ago.
