Question:

Mini-fridge/air conditioner conflict??

My friend was told by his RA that he needed to move his mini-fridge away from in front of his air conditioning unit because one of them (I can't remember which they said) would be damaged. My roommate and I have ours in front of our air conditioner so I mentioned this to her and neither of us can figure out an explanation as to why this would happen.

Was he misinformed, or is there truth to this?? Any help would be nice because we're renting our fridge and don't want to have to pay for damages.

  1. I'm not really sure about this one. An ac unit is going to work better if the air flow isn't blocked, maybe that's what he's thinking about. Look at it this way' if you move it ( the refrigerator ) you'll probably get along a lot better with the RA.

One thing I'm sure of is the refrigerator isn't going to cool any better or faster being in front of the ac.

  2. neither would be damaged, the fridge is taking heat away from the contents (food) and the a/c is taking heat from the room. There are a certain amount of btu that needs to be removed from room, ie. body heat , ambient heat , heat generated by lights or appliances. I guess if anything it would make the fridge run better with a cool breeze blowing on it.

  3. If anything, the air conditioner would lower the head pressure on your little refrigerator and make it run more efficiently.A little refrigerator doesn't reject enough heat to affect the air conditioner so leave it the way it is.
