Question:

Miniature Schnauzers???

We have decided to get a Miniature Schnauzer puppy (or are about 95% there) and wondered if anyone could share their experiences or suggest another alternative. We have 2 young children so temperament is a must. We love walking and do lots at weekends however during the week would only manage 2 x 20 - 40 minute walks due to commitments. Somebody is in house all day for company generally. Exercise commitments and temperament seemed to fit in with our lifestyle? Would welcome any feedback based on your experiences, particularly on exercise, thank you!

  1. thejamesboy2003, I haven't had any problems with my miniature schnauzer.

  2. My wife and I recently adopted an adult Miniature Schnauzer. We walk him for 45 min to an hour every morning and evening as well as play often during the day and he seems fine with that schedule. So your walking times should be alright. He is really good with our 4 yr old son and his friends as well as our other dog. Just remember to NEVER leave the children and the dog unsupervised. I can't really help in any other areas since he's my first Miniature Schnauzer and was fully trained (he is very well behaved) and housebroken when we got him.

  3. I LOVE MIN. SCHNAUZERS! i have one at my house right now. These dogs are extremely loyal especial to their "mothers" [the 1st human that they see as their mom.]To train a schnauzer takes a little but once you do they never forget. they are very energetic though so every now and then show him you his mom ['cause to them moms the boss] you can do this by gently picking them up by the scruff [the neck]. [you can contact me for more info] hope i helped~^^

  4. I am right this second, watching the BBC expose on the Kennel Club and the inbreeding of pedigree dogs. Before buying any highly bred dog please research the breed to ensure that you are not taking on a dog that will suffer from genetic disorders. It was shocking to see that almost every Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for example is now suffering incredible pain because its scull is too small for the brain, most labradors get cancer, most pugs can't regulate body temperature. The programme only covered a few breeds but the owners had all unwittingly bought themselves a constant vet bill. I can offer no advice about the requirements of the Miniature Schnauzer but please be careful of unscrupulous breeding practises.

  5. I have a miniature schnauzer, and he has played many times with the small children of my friends.  However - all puppies need to be watch AT ALL TIMES around young children.

The other thing about schnauzers - they are very intelligent, and really need to be trained to become a good pet dog.  Do you have the time to commit to this?

  6. Contact the Miniature Schnauzer Breed club f or information. Your nearest repuatble breeder will be happy to tell you whether or not a Mini Schnauzer is the right dog for you.
