Need to buy a Centrifugal Clutch/Gearbox for a 7 1/4 inch gauge miniature train, it will have a 3.5hp motor attached via a chain to it. Any ideas where to buy one from and how much one would be approx.??

The other Gentleman is right.  You might want to consider a heavier clutch.  The 3.5 HP Engine will probably do fine, bit most of the locomotives I have seen use an 8 or 10 horse Rototiller motor.  They add a little more weight for your tractive adhesion.

He mentioned Briggs and Stratton, and those are really good little engines.  There are a few others out there you might look at too.  Subaru makes the Industrual Robin Engine, and Honda has a few too.  The Honda's advantage is they are normally pretty quiet, so you don't have the typical Lawnmower sound.

Finally just as a suggestion for where to purchase these items; have a look in your Lawn and Garden Equipment section of your phone book, or if you are in your computer you can go to Superpages.com anf look up Landscaping Equipment Dealers in your area.  Just like autoparts stores, the industrial equipment parts stores do exist.

    Good Luck

  2. In my town, there's a farm implement dealer that also sells riding lawn mowers and snow blowers. Lots of replacement parts there for all sizes of engines. You may not have such a dealer where you live. Try looking in the phone book under small engine repair, or Briggs & Straton, or Tucumseh. They should have those style clutches available. I would imagine the cost to be less than $100.

Keep in mind the weight of what you have on the rails too. A simple push mower clutch would slip a lot. One for a riding mower would probably work better.
