Minimal Reraise for Texas hold'em poker?

Question

I played on a Texas Hold'em no limit poker tournament.

the small blinds were 100, the big ones 200. First some players called and put 200 on the table. The guy on the right to me said" i raise to 400", and put a total of 400 on the table.

Then i said: reraise and put 600 in total on the table.

A big arguing started and i was told that i had to pay at least 800 instead of the 600. "you must pay the double each time at least!!!"

i told them that they were wrong, but i couldn't proof it... Can anyone tell me who was wrong? or give me a link?

I don't know the answer myself, but this site has a ton of information on Hold'em and I  believe they have a book on strategy advertised there also.
