Question:

Minimalism in Japan?

Watching Anthony Bourdain one evening and he mentioned a Japanese word I can no longer recall. He said it meant having only what's necessary and no more. Beauty in minimalism or something like. Anyone know what it is?

  1. I think the term you’re looking for is either wabi or sabi (or both). They are a common aesthetic concept, and include  things like imperfection and empty space. I’m sure you can find plenty of detailed information out there on the subject (especially in the field of art theory).
