Minimum age to obtaining an NI number

im currently 17 yrs old and wondering if im old enough to get an NI number; as im not british and only lived in the UK for two years; i would need to apply for one if i want to get a job. Some 15/16 yr olds who i know have already gotten theirs (but they are British). So yea, any help would be much appreciated!:)

    Answer, I got mine when I was 16, because I was born - erm I mean MADE in England. So thumbs down that b*****d.

  3. i'm 26 now but think i got my national NI when i was 16.

    so yeah phone up and say monday morning and say "HELLO, I STILL EXIST YOU KNOW, GIMME A NI NUMBER SO I CAN WORK AND VOTE GORDON BROWN OUT" *slams down phone*

  6. It's actually given at birth. When the birth is registered the DHSS allocate an NI number based on your birth date.

    However most people don't ask for it until they need it, which is when the get their first job.

    Just go to you local DHSS office and they will help you.
