  1. I live in South Burnaby right along the skytrain and I used to commute from there to North Van to work each day using transit. That took me about an hour to an hour and a half, so I would think that you would be looking at a minimum hour and a half to two hours commute each way. But really it's hard to say without knowing exactly where you are starting from on the North Shore.

Long commutes aren't so bad on transit if you have a paper or a book to read. It's long, but you get used to it if you have to, and it's better than being stuck in traffic for that long and having to concentrate on driving. But it depends on how many connections you have to make too, and how frequently your connecting busses come. The seabus and sktrain are good, but if you have to take busses then having to do a lot of connections is a pain, and if your connections don't come very often and you miss it, then it can really lengthen your commute and make you unexpectedly late for where you need to be. These are all things to consider.

You should go to translink.bc.ca and do a trip plan. You enter your starting point and your end point and then you can see exactly how long your trip should take and what busses you can use, etc.
