Minimum hassles for dual EU/US citizen crossing Canada border?

Question

I understand the border agents at the Canada border take their jobs seriously. I am a dual Polish/USA citizen WITH the Polish Passport, but WITHOUT a US passport.

Will I experience any hassles crossing the border back to the US by car with only the Polish passport? (I know Driver's License+Citizenship Certificate will work, but don't want to bring the Citizenship Certificate if not needed)

if you are crossing the border with a polish passport you will need proof of american residency
