Hello, I was wondering, with regard to becoming a Mining and Quarrying Engineer, would a BSc in Mining and Quarrying Engineering be less competitive than a degree in say Civil Engineering? Please feel free to offer any comments in general about a degree in Mining and Quarrying Engineering. Thanks.

  1. VA tech has a great program with tons of industry connections if your interested. I attached a website if your interested. My only real advice is follow your dreams.

  2. I think that it would be less competitive simply because it isn't as broad. With civil, you have many more job opportunities while the other has a more specific job market that would be more likely to hire you with that specific degree. If you aren't completely sure about what career field you want to pursue, choose a broader engineering degree. Most of these engineering  majors contain the same initial classes till around junior year so you can always go back later.
