We just added a min pin to our family. When we first took him home he devoured my 1 year old shih tzu's kibbles and bits. I began to think maybe he wasn't fed much by the previous owners. Then this morning he drank water until his belly was huge!! Now I just think he's eating just because. I need to know how much food should he have each day and how much water. I want to leave water out for him but i don't want him to swell up like he did this morning. He is about 14 weeks

  1. Like most dogs, pinchers just LOVE to eat. I have caught mine eating her food, then running over to my poodles bowl to eat his food. Same with water, but drinking too much water is a sign for a few different health problems, so take her to a vet if that continues. And limit food and water to little amounts. Pinchers don't need eat too much, just a small, small bowls worth, twice a day. And only have water out for a little bit then put it up, and take it out after a few hours and repeat. Also, watch as they eat, if she tries to eat your other dogs food, scold her and bring her back to her bowl. It takes some training. These dogs certainly have very strong personalitys.

  2. Since he's a baby you'll probably need to regulate what he eats and drinks. Rather than leaving dishes out for him only put them down for about 5 or 10 minutes then pick them up. Do this at the same time everyday and you'll train him to only eat what he needs and get him on a schedule. That's what I had to do with my Min Pin.
