Minjee Lee takes the 2012 U.S. Girls' Junior Title
The Australian player Minjee Lee won the 2012 U.S. Girls' Junior title after a tough match against the American Alison Lee. The result was a 1-up victory in favour of the Aussie player.
Minjee Lee became the eighth Australian player to win a USGA title. The match was very tense and Minjee appeared very relieved after the match. She said, “I'm so relieved that it's over. I was so tense coming into the last couple of holes”.
The match began with both the players going strong. The match turned really exciting after the break when Alison Lee took a lead and appeared to be the winner.
At this point, Minjee Lee had an amazing recovery and she moved in for a 1-up victory over Alison Lee.
It all happened at the 23rd hole, which is classed as par 4. Minjee Lee scored a bogey here that equalled both the players. From this point onwards, it was Minjee Lee’s game. On the 26th hole, Alison Lee did manage to gain a slight
lead but that proved temporary.
Minjee Lee was very concerned about the match at this point. She said, “Alison came back after 18 holes, and she played much better in the afternoon. She gave me a run for my money”.
It was not a smooth downhill win for Minjee Lee. Although it was clear that she will win, Alison Lee put up a great fight.
However, experts said that Minjee Lee did hit the ball erratically at times, giving Alison Lee opportunities to move in on her own lead.
The last holes turned out to be very exciting as Minjee Lee played some great golf to gain advantage over Alison Lee. On the 33rd hole, Alison Lee got stuck at a greenside bunker and seriously jeopardized her chances by falling over par.
The match ended with a narrow win for Minjee Lee. Experts say that this win is very important for Minjee Lee’s career. She has not played much golf since January. She broke her ankle and since then this has been her second major tournament.
With this win under her belt, Minjee Lee is looking forward to the coming events with greater confidence.
