Minnesota Lynx 96 - Atlanta Dream 85
Seimone Augustus notched up a team-high 25 points, scoring 15 of them in the second half of the game, as the Minnesota Lynx gunned down the Eastern Conference Champions Atlanta Dream 96-85 at Target Center.
Rebekkah Brunson recorded her fifth consecutive double-double of this season and finished with 18 points and a game high 14 rebounds for Minnesota. Lindsay Whalen chipped in with 16 points and eight assists while Maya Moore added
13 points and four assists for Lynx, who won their fourth straight.
Atlanta’s forward Angel McCoughtry scored a game-high 27 points, grabbed eight rebounds, four steals, and dished out three assists. Erika de Souza had 18 points, 11 rebounds while Iziane Castro Marques and Shalee Lehning scored
12 and 11 points, respectively.
Atlanta played well in the first quarter and held a 20-17 lead at the end. Lynx however responded in the second quarter and tied the game, 39-39, at halftime.
Keyed by Whalen, Minnesota launched a 13-0 spurt early in the third quarter and raced to a 54-43 lead. Atlanta fought hard and managed to cut the deficit to 58-53 with 03:08 remaining but Minnesota then surged ahead with a 9-2
run to take a 67-55 lead into the fourth.
Lynx continued to dominate the proceedings in the fourth quarter and maintained their lead throughout to seal the victory.
Chicago Sky 85 - New York Liberty 73
Sylvia Fowles registered a season-high 27 points, scoring 10 of them in the third quarter, and clutched 11 rebounds as Chicago Sky beat New York Liberty 85-73 at Allstate Arena.
Epiphanny Prince punctuated 17 points, eight assists, and four steals while Michelle Snow had 13 points and seven rebounds in the third consecutive Chicago victory.
Cappie Pondexter headed New York with 20 points and eight rebounds while Essence Carson came off the bench with 12 points and five assists. Kia Vaughn scored 10 points and five rebounds for Liberty, who lost their third straight
game.
New York got off to a good start and held a 19-14 lead after first quarter. Both teams scored 17 points each in the second quarter as Liberty maintained a 36-31 lead at halftime.
Sky however turned the game upside down in the third and converted their five-point first half deficit into a 63-49 lead, heading into the final stanza. Trailing by 14 points at the end of three, New York made a comeback in the
fourth quarter and cut the deficit to nine points, 70-79, with 02:33 left in the game. However, Chicago maintained their composure down the stretch to walk away with a victory.
