Minnesota Lynx beat San Antonio Silver Stars 85-67; Storm into WNBA Western Conference Finals
Minnesota Lynx have been the team to beat this season. They finished the season with league’s best record, way ahead of the rest. Going into the playoffs after a break of seven years, the Lynx have a golden chance to win it all
this season.
However, standing between their dreams in the first round of playoffs were the solid San Antonio Silver Stars, who defeated Minnesota Lynx last Sunday and evened the three match series.
However, in the game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals, Minnesota Lynx showed again why they finished the season as league’s best team. Showing their hunger to succeed, Lynx easily overcame the San Antonio Silver stars 85-67,
and in doing so, stormed into the Western Conference Finals, where they will meet the Phoenix Mercury.
San Antonio came into this game oozing with confidence after beating the Lynx for the first time in six attempts and were looking to repeat the performance again. On the night, they tried everything they could, to beat the number
1 seeds, but Minnesota Lynx turned out too strong and in the end won quite convincingly.
Minnesota Lynx body language looked different. They were running well and passing the ball neatly which was a thing, they were not quite doing in last two games.
Seimone Augustus finished with game high 22 points and was assisted well by her team mates. She received a standing ovation from a capacity crowd when she came out with 53 seconds to play. Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeves was
also very animated throughout the game, bucking her players up. She showered praise on Augustus after the game,
"Seimone has been an absolute stud, the way she responded, "Cheryl Reeve said. "She has this look about her that makes me feel so good inside, knowing she's on my side."
Minnesota Lynx were in the driving seat most of the time except early in the first quarter, which ended with Minnesota leading only by 1 point at 19-18. Lynx made only field goal in five attempts early in the game and were in a
10-2 hole within the first three minutes. However, what followed was phase, in which Minnesota made 17 of their 22 shots and reeled of a 38-15 spurt, bridging the first and second quarter to chalk out a 40-25 lead, their highest of the game.
The teams went into the break with the Lynx leading by 44-36. It was followed with a 22-20 frame, before Minnesota finally pulled away for good in the last 10 minutes.
Sophia Young was the most impressive player from the Silver Stars. She made her first seven shots and scored 17 points in the game but Minnesota didn’t allow any other player from San Antonio to score freely.
