While the defending WNBA Champions continue to roll, the dismal stretch for the Texans continues as they lose their 4th straight game …..
On Sunday night the league leading Minnesota Lynx set the team’s single season record as they went past the San Antonio Silver Stars 81-62 for their 11th consecutive win. On the other hand, the bad stretch continued
for the Texas based side, which has now lost their fourth consecutive game.
Maya Moore led the Lynx with a double-double performance of 18 points and 12 rebounds while Rebekkah Brunson notched up a double-double of her own with15 points and 12 rebounds. Lindsay Whalen and Monica Wright also made their
way into double figures by contributing 11 points each while Devereaux Peters came off the bench to add 10.
It was an overall great performance from team Minnesota, who distributed the ball pretty well on their way to 26 assists in comparison to San Antonio’s 15. The Lynx also made the most of their chances as they shot the ball 55%
from the field while also doing their work on the defensive end by holding the Silver Stars to a conversion rate of only 36.4%. They also out-rebounded San Antonio 39-30 on the night.
Sophia Young was the only home side player who managed to get into double figures with 20 points and 8 rebounds.
Minnesota came out strongly to start the game with Brunson making a layup to open the scoring which was followed by back to back three pointers from Moore and Wright thus capping off an 8-0 run. The spectacular start to the game
did set the tone of the ball game, however a 7-0 run in between the opening stanza, capped off by a Becky Hammon triple, allowed San Antonio to cut the lead down to 1. Minnesota held their nerve from there on though and ended the quarter leading by 22-18.
A 5-0 run to start the second quarter really set the visitors on their course. They dominated the visitors and deep into the half, pulled off a15-1 run to take a 47-29 lead into the break. But the Silver Stars were not going out
that easy as they opened the third quarter with a 6-2 run. They outscored the visitors 21-12 in the period but despite their best efforts, Minnesota, courtesy of their impressive showing in the first half, still held a 9 point lead before the start of the
fourth.
After playing out a mediocre third quarter, Minnesota got back to being themselves in the final period as they started off with a 6-2 run on their way to dominating the rest of the proceedings. Another 7-0 run to close out the
game put the ultimate exclamation mark on their performance as they took this one by a difference of 19 points.
