Minnesota Lynx rout Seattle Storm 92-67; Win fifth straight game – WNBA Recap
Minnesota Lynx romped to a 92-67 win over the Seattle Strom on Friday night before 7,856 fans at Target Center, increasing their current winning streak to five. The women from Minnesota are now just a victory away from knocking
out Indiana Fever from pole position in the league.
Seimone Augustus and Candice Wiggins put together another gallant effort for Minnesota with 16 points each. Augustus also grabbed five rebounds and hit 8 for 10 from the field while Wiggins was terrific from three-point range,
pinning 5 of 8 three-pointers.
Maya Moore added 12 points, a season-high six assists and two steals while centre forward Taj McWilliams-Franklin punctuated with 10 points for Minnesota, who are at the top of Western Conference with a 12-4 record.
Swin Cash led Seattle with 18 points, four assists, and two steals. Lecoe Willingham came off the bench with 14 points and three rebounds for Strom, who saw their two game winning streak snapped. Lynx were able to stop Seattle’s
leading scorer Sue Bird, limiting her to just four points on 1 for 6 shooting in more than 26 minutes of action.
Seattle played the game without their three-time WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson, who has been out for at least three weeks with labral tear in her left hip. Jackson was injured in Tuesday’s game against the Tulsa Shock.
Minnesota shot 56.2 percent from the field, including 53.8 percent from 3-point range and limited Storm to just 41.5 percent from the floor, including 26.7 percent beyond the arc. In addition to the fine shooting display, Lynx
converted Seattle’s 18 turnovers into 25 points
Minnesota got off to a fabulous start and limited the visiting team to 30 points in the first half, taking a 19-point lead, 49-30, at halftime. Lynx continued to play hard in the third quarter and outscored Seattle 25-19, stretching
their lead to 74-49.
Leading by 25 points at the end of three, Minnesota maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to walk away with their seventh home victory of this season.
