Minnesota Lynx secure the top seed in West; Beat Indiana Fever 86-79: WNBA Recap
On Monday night, courtesy of Maya Moore’s exploits from long range, Minnesota Lynx edged past Indiana Fever 86-79 at the Target Center.
The second year forward sank down 6 three pointers on her way to a career best 29 points. Moore made five of her three pointers during the third quarter to help Minnesota come from behind and also tied the WNBA record of most three’s
in a frame – something she was made aware of during the game.
“The coaching staff just made me aware of what actually happened. In the moment, you're just playing,” Moore said. “I was just trying to be aggressive and its one of those nights where the shot is feeling good, so you keep shooting.”
Lindsay Whalen continued to roll with 13 points and 8 rebounds to her name and Devereaux Peters also played well for 10 points. Minnesota despite having three games left on their schedule have secured the top seed in the Western
Conference, while the loss for Indiana takes them out of the running for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Tamika Catchings notched up a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds with Katie Douglas, Briann January and Jessica Davenport lent a helping hand by contributing 17, 14 and 13 points respectively. But their efforts were of
no use at the end as they failed to make the most of a good start to the game.
Having dominated the proceedings early on, Indiana held a 14 point lead after the first half. The advantage remained intact for most of the start of the third quarter, but with 4:07 remaining in the period and Minnesota trailing
by 10, Moore stepped up to make three key triples and all of a sudden, the game was level pegging before the start of the fourth.
With the momentum on their side, Minnesota amped up their intensity and forced Indiana to commit four turnovers in the final period while keeping their scoring tally alive to seal a go0od win. This will be the second year running
when the Lynx finish the regular season with the best record in the West.
