Minnesota Lynx snap Indiana Fever’s seven-game winning streak, 80-70 – WNBA Recap
Friday night saw Indiana Fever’s seven-game winning streak coming to a halt at the hands of the Minnesota Lynx, 80-70, at Conseco Fieldhouse. In a game witnessed by 7,538 people, Fever never led by more than four points and slipped
towards their first defeat since June 19, 2011.
Minnesota were brilliant in the backcourt on the night. They limited red-hot Indiana, league’s most efficient shooting side, to just 39.3 percent from the field. However, even after the loss, Fever are still at the top of Eastern
Conference with an 8-4 record.
Fever coach Lin Dunn appreciated the performance of the visiting team and said, "Minnesota did a super job on us defensively," "We did not match their intensity. They disrupted what we were trying to do."
Rebekkah Brunson led the Lynx with 20 points, on a shooting 10 for 15 from the field, and nine rebounds. Maya Moore had 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Lindsay Whalen contributed 16 points seven assists and four
rebounds. Seimone Augustus also ended the game with 12 points for Minnesota, who have won three of their previous six games.
Fever forward Tamika Catchings scored a game-high 22 points. Jessica Davenport contributed 13 points, five rebounds and two steals while Erin Phillips totalled 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.  Katie Douglas punctuated
10 points in the loss.
First Quarter
Lynx came out strong in the opening period, going up 11-6 with 06:31 to go. However, Indiana responded with 15- 6 run and went ahead by 21-17. Minnesota scored the next three points of the quarter to cut the margin to one, 21-20,
but Sutton-Brown’s free throw at the buzzer gave Indiana a 22-20 lead, going into the second.
Second Quarter
Second quarter followed the same and the game hung in balance early. Midway through the frame, Davenport hit a pair of free throws to give Indiana a three-point lead, 33-30. Minnesota responded with 10 consecutive points to convert
the deficit into a 40-33 lead with 04:27 left in the quarter. However with just 1:18 to go in the break, Fever scored six answered points to knot the game at 41.
Third Quarter
The battle of supremacy ensued in the third quarter and Indiana took a 51-48 lead with 02:42 to go. Minnesota however broke the game open at that point and sprinted onto an 11-3 run in the closing minutes of the quarter, to take
a 59-54 lead into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Lynx stretched their lead to nine points, 66-57, early in the fourth quarter and maintained their lead down the stretch to walk away with eighth victory of this season.
