Minnesota Lynx’s Maya Moore Named WNBA 'Rookie of the Month' for July
After leading all the WNBA rookies with 13 points per game in the month of July, Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore earned her first major WNBA award on Tuesday, when the league announced her name for the Rookie of the month award
for July.
The 22-year-old has been a part of an impressive 15-4 run, which the Minnesota Lynx have produced so far this season. In July, the first overall pick of the 2011 WNBA Draft, topped all the rookies in scoring average (13.0) and
in three-pointers made (27). In addition to that, she finished the month, second in rebounds (4.4) and assists made (3.6).
In total, she scored 104 points, grabbed 35 rebounds, dished out 29 assists and made 13 steals. Moore reached double figured in five of the eight games she played for her team during July. So far in this season, the Collins Hill
High School’s products is averaging 12.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Seimone Augustus, who has been the core on which the Lynx have built their success this season showered praise on the rookie after the announcement. "She is a big part of our success, and she has a little razzle dazzle going on."
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve also highlighted the fact that Moore lived up to the extraordinary expectations that accompanied her arrival in the league.
"She is not one-dimensional," "That is why there was no reservation about putting her in the starting line-up from the very get-go. There is a great deal of trust among our veteran group with her”. Here is a look at some of Moore’s

July 9 vs. Connecticut Sun
Moore tallied a season-high 26 points in Minnesota’s 90-67 victory over the Connecticut Sun on July 9. The player finished on 9 for 14 shooting from the field, including 6 for 9 from three-point range.
July 13 vs. Phoenix Mercury
Moore racked up 15 points, five rebounds and three assists in Lynx’s 112-105 defeat to Phoenix Mercury. She scored 10 points in the second half and ended the night with 6 for 18 shooting from the floor.
July 15 vs. Indiana Fever
The Minnesota forward punctuated 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Lynx snapped Indiana Fever’s seven-game winning streak with an 80-70 victory.
July 20 vs. Phoenix Mercury
Moore registered a career-high four steals and punctuated 14 points in a 106-98 victory over Mercury on July 20.
July 29 vs. Seattle Storm
Maya posted 12 points, dished out a game best six assists and stole the ball twice in Minnesota’s 92-67 victory over the Seattle Storm.
