Minnesota Lynx’s Seimone Augustus named WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week
Minnesota Lynx’s Seimone Augustus has been named WNBA's Western Conference Player of the Week after helping the Lynx win all of their three games played from Monday, August 1 through Sunday, August 7. Minnesota are currently riding
high on franchise-record nine game winning streak and a league-best 16-4 record and the reason for their unprecedented success so far in this season has been the emergence of Augustus.
In the three games during the week, Augustus averaged 16.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She finished the week on a 19 for 40 shooting from the floor.
It marks Augustus’ second Player of the Week honour so far in this season, and the sixth of her five-year WNBA career. Minnesota’s shooting guard is averaging 16.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game in this
season and is eighth in the league in scoring and third in the field goals made.
Here is a review of the breath-taking performance of the player during the previous week:
August 2 vs. Phoenix Mercury
At Target Center, Augustus scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds as Minnesota beat Phoenix Mercury 90-73 for their seventh straight win. The player scored 14 of her points in the second half. Augustus, who was named as Western
Conference player of the month for July, ended with 7 for 13 shooting from the field and 7 for 10 from free throw line.
August 4 vs. San Antonio Silver Stars
The 6 ft small forward punctuated 10 points, grabbed three rebounds and blocked two shots in a 62-60 win against San Antonio on Thursday night at Target Center. In a rare lacklustre effort, Augustus shot just 4 for 13 in more than
32 minutes of action.
August 7 vs. Los Angeles Sparks
The three-time WNBA All-Star recorded 19 points on 8 for 14 shooting from the field in Lynx’s 84-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at Staples Center. The player also pulled down seven rebounds, dished out three assists and
stole the ball twice for her team.
Other Nominees
Other nine nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were, Angel McCoughtry (Atlanta Dream), Sylvia Fowles (Chicago Sky), Renee Montgomery (Connecticut Sun), Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Lindsay Whalen
(Minnesota Lynx), Cappie Pondexter (New York Liberty), Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury), Tiffany Jackson ( Tulsa Shock), Matee Ajavon (Washington Mystics).
