Minnesota Senate schedules meetings to chalk out plans for new Vikings stadium – NFL News
The Minnesota Senate has scheduled two all day meetings for the public to air their sentiments on the issue of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium.
The two hearings will take place on November 29th and December 6threspectively to finalize the bill and approve the required state funding needed to cover the $ 1.1 billion project. The Vikings owner Zygi
Wilf has previously proposed a personal $ 400 million investment with the rest of the bill to be paid by the state.
"The reason why we're having the hearings is to fill in the blanks on a bill that's just about done but not quite," said Julie Rosen, R-Fairmont, who is leading stadium efforts in the state Senate. "It's just to get the correct
information out, really, and then hear what people have to say about this information."
The first hearing will concentrate on the site of the new Stadium with Arden Hills favoured by the franchise as the Ramsey Council has already approved the plans the day before yesterday with a unanimous vote. Three other potential
sites for the new stadium in Minneapolis are also under consideration by the Senate. The second meeting will decide the options to raise funds for the project with a potential casino or taxation being the two options.
With fans wary of the threat that the Vikings will move the franchise to another city if the plans for the new stadium are not approved the State legislature will have to reach common ground fast.
The Vikings’ lease of the Mall of America Metrodome is set to expire after the current season and the facilities have been deemed insufficient for the future plans of the franchise as the Vikings look forward to developing a state
of the art facility providing a better and more entertaining match day experience to fans as well as increasing ticket sales with greater seating capacity.
The hearings will take place with Senate taxes Committee chair Juilianne Ortman presiding over the proceedings. The meetings in addition to public opinions will also include a testimony by Vikings representatives to provide a clear
picture of their plans.
The Minnesota Vikings will face the Oakland Raiders on Sunday November 20th as they will look to bounce back from the 45-7 drubbing they received at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.
