Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Love looking forward to play in a beach volleyball tourney – NBA News
Kevin Love has been playing some beach volley ball in the summer and the forward spoke about the game and an upcoming beach volley ball tournament during a recent interview.
Kevin Love plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. He is the star player at the franchise despite his young years. The power forward averaged a double-double last season, earning a spot on the All Star weekend in the process.
He also won the rebounding title in the NBA last season warding off the challenge from the likes of Dwight Howard and Nene.
Since the NBA declared a lockout on July 1st due to the ongoing dispute over a new CBA, a lot of players have found different jobs. Many are playing in the summer leagues; some have signed contracts with foreign teams
while still more have been hitting the gym working on their game.
Love has broken the trend by trying his hand at a different sport altogether. The Minnesota forward used to play beach volley ball during his college days and the player has been at it again since the lockout began. He trained
with former beach volley ball players for a while and played in some friendly games. Now a two player a side tournament is drawing nearer and Love is looking forward to the challenge.
He spoke in the interview about the experience of playing a different sport,
"To try and cross over in any sport, especially in a small amount of time, you don't realize how tough it is," Love said Sunday. "Getting in the sand, getting that ball hit at you with all the topspin they put on it, my respect
for all the players went through the roof."
He is better at it than most NBA players would be because of his background in the game. His height also helps, but the forward says there are still some skills he needs to master before being completely comfortable on the sand.
"I have the timing down with the hitting and my setting's pretty good. My blocking's decent just because it's like playing at the rim in the NBA, but my passing and my serving are subpar," he said. "I'm going to get out there a
couple more times during the week and try to get it done."
It would be interesting to see how the player performs on the sand in the tournament. He has said volley ball helps him keep in shape during the lockout and the Timberwolves would be hoping he can arrive to camp without any injury
and in the right physical condition.
