Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love petitions innocence in Luis Scola episode - NBA Update
Saturday’s game between Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets was apparently a normal season game.
It ended with the Timberwolves winning by 9 point margin, 100-91; however there was a lot more to that very game than just the result.
With four minutes remaining in the third quarter, Timberwolves star Kevin Love stepped on Rockets’ man Luis Scola’s chest and face, while Scola was running with the ball towards the basket to attempt a layup.
The whole Rockets bench stood up and cried for the “Foul” however the referee probably did not see what actually happened and did not award Rockets a foul. Once the game ended, the video clip of the incident was viral on Youtube.com
and there was a lot of talk going about it whether the move by love was done intently or not?
Love however denied the accusations and according to him it was completely “unintentional”.
"He was kind of right there," Love said. "I have size-19 feet. He just happened to be there. I had nowhere to go. I kind of tripped up. I just had nowhere to step. It was a heat-of-the-moment type play. He was there and it happened
to be his face."
Love further added that he and Scola have a friendly relationship and the incident was completely accidental. He even apologized to Scola after the game and hoped that Scola will not take it personally.
On the other side, when Scola was asked about this saga, he although did not accuse Love, but did not also completely rule out the possibility of an intentional attack by his counterpart.
"I just don't care about the play, the game is over," said Scola. "I was just really surprised. ... I'm talking about the play. I think he wanted to foul me, and I don't know why the ref didn't call it."
Both Love and Scola are professionals so it is unlikely that this incident would lead to any sort of a rift between both. The NBA disciplinary committee probably would jump in to inspect if there is something true to the rumours,
but whatever happens, it would be an interesting battle when both these athletes play each other again in this season.
