Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Love’s record-breaking streak threatened by knee injury
Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Love is on the verge of creating NBA history. The 22-year-old forward tied Moses Malone’s 30-year record of 51 consecutive double-doubles in his team’s match against the Dallas Mavericks on 7th March. Despite his team’s loss,
the player came out shiny as ever, recording 23 points and 11 rebounds in the game, becoming the first person in 32 years to score 51 consecutive double-doubles.
Now here is a twist in the situation, the NBA superstar who is on the peak of his career has been injured. Yes! Love has been injured en route the record-setting 52nd double-double. The Minnesota forward missed practice on Tuesday due to the injury. The
player fell on the floor during Monday’s game and his bruised left knee kept him off the gym floor during practice. However, despite the injury, chances of Love away from the next game are slim for two main reasons: Reason number one, Love is intent on making
the record. Otherwise, why would he have appeared in every single game, every single night and played with such zeal and determination. Reason number two, who knows if he will get another shot at the record. Many a legendary careers have ended without  even
coming near to this record. This is Love’s golden chance to etch his name among the history-makers of NBA.
Kevin Love is going to make history. It can be the sole good thing that is happening to his team at the moment. His team is already going downhill this season, being the second worst team with a 15-50 record. The Cleveland Cavaliers are the worst team of
the season, with just three less wins, at a record 12-50.
The player had an MRI of his knee and the results came out clean. There are chances that he will be able to play the next game, but there might be some complications. The player might have a shaky game as rebounding requires a lot of running and then there
are the jumps and all those difficult moves against the opposition. When asked about the player’s condition and whether he will be able play to play Wednesday’s game, Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said, “It's a heck of an accomplishment to be that consistent and
put up the kind of numbers he's been putting up. It’s very, very difficult to do that kind of thing.”
The UCLA graduate will have to rely on long range shots, mainly three-pointers and take some rest in between the shots. All he requires is 10 points and 10 rebounds. On his day, that’s not at all difficult for the ‘Rebounding Machine’ to acquire. He has
averaged 20.9 points and 15.8 rebounds per game this season.
Kevin Love has said he is grateful to his fans and teammates who have supported him throughout the streak and was quoted as saying after the 51st double-double, “The Target Centre, all the fans, the Twin Cities, all of Minnesota have been great all year.
They've had our backs. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when we really start winning and turn that corner."
Little twists in the road to success make victory even more exciting. Who knows, this injury might make the record even more sizzling for Love, and add more value to the already priceless star. Good luck Kevin Love!
