Minnesota Timberwolves President David Kahn discusses Kevin Love, Draft and Kurt Rambis – NBA News
After giving a huge welcome to the Spanish guard Ricky Rubio, Minnesota Timberwolves president David Kahn has turned his attention to more serious and pending matters.
The outspoken president straight away put a full stop to all the rumours when he stated that Kevin Love is going now where and that his franchise will pick Kyrie Irving in the draft, if the Cleveland Cavaliers don’t pick him earlier
in Thursday’s draft.
Kahn said, "Absolutely not. No ifs, ands or buts. Kevin will be on this team next year and I expect Kevin, as I've said numerous times, to be on this team for many, many years. I see him as being a very important part of our future."
About Irving, Kahn said that the Wolves wouldn’t dither to pull Kyrie in their squad. However, his decision seems to make no sense as Minnesota already got three point guards in their line-up - Johnny Flynn, Luke Ridnour and now
Rubio.
Kahn however seems more intent on take whatever comes your way policy. "Well, that's the question right? I think it's very important for us not to play that game where we feel that we react, we'll take him at two and then decide
what's best course of action."
However, things are not as simple as they appear on the surface. It may well be the case that Wolves will draft in Irving with their No. 2 pick and then trade him with some veteran player, which is the need of the hour for Minnesota.
The second option for the Wolves would be to exchange Irving with future draft picks, as Kahn made it clear on Monday that they are not going to give away Rubio at any cost.
However, Kahn is still keeping the Wolves head coach Kurt Rambis matter pending. It’s been more than seven weeks now and the Wolves are still undecided on Rambis future. Kurt has four year contract with the Wolves and two years
are still remaining in the expiry of the pact.
Kahn has received a lot of flak for dragging the coach issue and Rambis also expressed his frustration over the matter about two weeks back. Kahn finally broke the ice though and met Rambis a few days ago. After a six hour long
meeting in which the duo discussed all the matters including Kurt’s record (32 wins and 132 losses) with the franchise, Kahn said that the meeting was “very positive”. However, Kahn will make the final decision after meeting with the owner of the Wolves, Glen
Taylor most probably in this week.
Kahn said, "I recognize that this is painful for everybody involved, or at least awkward at a minimum. But I think we understand where we're at. All in due time."
