Minnesota Timberwolves President David Kahn searching for a big man – NBA News
The Minnesota Timberwolves had one of the most successful off-seasons in recent history this year, recruiting some great talent and improving the roster to the point where it is in serious playoff talk for the
upcoming season.
The Wolves had a good team assembled last season with Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio forming the core of the team. However, Rubio suffered a season ending injury and Love, though he was spectacular throughout the
season, was unable to carry his team into the playoffs.
Love said in the offseason that he wanted the Wolves to make some roster improvements because he wanted to compete in the playoffs on a regular basis. And the Wolves front office listened to their franchise player,
adding Andrei Kirilenko, Brandon Roy and Alexey Shved to the team to make it one of the most promising outfits for the upcoming season.
But, the Wolves President of Basketball Operations, David Kahn, is not done yet with recruiting. Kahn is said to be scouting for another big man to join the team.
The Wolves have 13 players on contract for next season, and are loaded in the big man department with Love, Kirilenko, Greg Stiemsma and Nikola Pekovic. However, Kahn thinks adding another big man to the roster
would make it even better, and is currently scouting the available free agents. Kahn however only has the $1 million veteran’s minimum to offer.
Kahn has been busy catching up with the Wolves players recently. He travelled to Seattle on Sunday to have lunch with new recruit Brandon Roy, who is making his return to the league after missing a year with
injuries. Roy is expected to be in Minneapolis by next weekend so that he can get his oldest son enrolled in kindergarten, before starting training.
Kahn was also optimistic about the recovery of point guard Rubio, and said that he “is proceeding well” with his rehab. He did not want to put a timeline on Rubio’s return, but did say that it was highly unlikely
that Rubio would be back for the season opener on Nov 2nd. The Wolves however have J.J. Barea to handle the position till the time Rubio gets fit.
