Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Carlisle wants Kevin Love in running for NBA’s MVP Award
The NBA’s Most Valuable Player award is the most desired and prestigious endowment in the world of basketball; and Kevin Love’s name has all of a sudden started to echo amongst the worthy nominees.
The Minnesota Timberwolves power forward has been nothing but brilliant so far in this NBA season. He has emerged as an unstoppable force in the paint and his clutch shooting has resulted in many dramatic wins for Minnesota Timberwolves lately.
"The guys who take and make shots at the end of games, those are the guys who often get mentioned for MVP," Wolves coach Rick Adelman said recently. "Kevin is worthy of that consideration. He deserves to be talked about in that area."
Love delivered an electrifying performance in the last game against Los Angeles Clippers, as he netted 39 points and had 17 rebounds paving the way to 95-94 victory. Moreover, in the past 3 games he has averaged 34.6 points and 12.3 boards, numbers which any big can be proud of.
He is now being mentioned in the same category as two times NBA MVP LeBron James and Kevin Durant and if Love continues on in this vein it will be a tough call to decide a name by the end of the season.
The power forward has averaged 25.4 points and 13.7 rebounds per game this season, scoring as high as 42 this week against the Portland Trail Blazers. The one thing that could go against Love however would be the current standings his team. With 20 wins and 19 losses the success of the Wolves cannot be compared with that of Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Terry Porter T’Wolves assistant coach concurred that.
“When you look at Kevin's numbers, he can be there with the rest of them, but you have to think about what type of team we are,"
However if Love manages to steer the Wolves into the playoffs the situation might change and his credentials for the MVP award will become very strong.
As of now, MVP spot seems like a fry cry but for a team that hasn’t had a MVP player since Kevin Garnett in 2004; Love is likely to be the strongest prospect.
