Minnesota Timberwolves decide on early end of season for Kevin Love – NBA Update
The Minnesota Timberwolves have shut down Kevin Love for the current NBA season. The team has fallen off the playoffs spots and now with just a handful of games remaining in the regular season see no point in bringing Kevin back.
The super star forward has been out with a mild concussion and strained neck for a while now. Love has cleared all the tests required while the NBA also has given the go ahead for him to return to the court. The Timberwolves however believe that the sensitive
nature of the injury, coupled with the fact that the season doesn’t mean much anymore, translates to very little need of bringing Kevin back into the fold.
Guard Luke Ridnour is facing a similar situation but the Wolves have decided to keep him inactive as well. Minnesota head coach Rick Adelman thinks it’s the logical course of action to follow.
"It's just best for both of them not to push it," Adelman said.
He claimed that the Wolves have enough players to get through the few remaining games and it would be a good opportunity for the reserves to have an extended run in the side as well.
"We'll just go with the guys we have and hope we can get a couple of wins," he said.
This means a remarkable season will come to a premature end for Kevin Love, who truly established himself as one of the elites in the game. He was overlooked for the All-Star weekend in favour of the more glamorous forwards Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge.
However, his overall contribution to the Timberwolves cause far outshines the efforts of his contemporaries. Love has once again averaged a double-double and his stats have been so phenomenal that no other Big Man can rival him.
He has also been decisive this year with game winning shots and impressive performances in the clutch, heaving the Timberwolves on after the injury to Ricky Rubio. So good was Love that at a time he was a part of the conversation for the season MVP award.
The Timberwolves will be hoping an extended rest can help spur Kevin on for bigger and better things next season.
