Minnesota Timberwolves free agent Sebastian Telfair wants to play for a contender – NBA News
Even though it was an assurity that the NBA lockout will hamper some or all part of the 2011-12 season, there were still a group of player who opted for free agency.
One of these players is Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Sebastian Telfair. The first round pick from the 2004 NBA Draft will be available for a new deal whenever the free agency hits the floor.
Like other free agent, the Wolves backup guard also has a demand and it has nothing to do with money.
In fact, all Telfair wants is to join a championship contender. For him, a shot at the title comes first and money is secondary.
The 26 year old Sebastian, who has a career average scoring rate of 7.8 points, 3.8 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game. He is currently playing pickup games in the Impact Training Basketball Series aka the “lockout league” with
around 40 other NBA players. In a recent interview, Sebastian revealed that he has list in mind going into the next season;
“I sure do have a list of teams in my mind. Those teams being one of the teams to make a run for a championship or the teams that are fighting every year for a championship. Seeing Dallas win a championship, congratulations to
them, but I’m jealous. I’m extremely jealous. Dallas is definitely on my list. They’ve got the gold right now. It’s not a bad thing in this league to want to go where the gold is. If you can compete and help the team win a championship, that’s one of the main
focuses in the NBA.
Apart from the Dallas Mavericks, Sebastian didn’t mention the name of the other teams. In fact when inquired about the names of his favourite destinations for the next season Telfair’s reply was something like this:
“I won’t say any teams in particular, but the obvious teams.”
Dallas however wouldn’t be having their point guard seat vacant, as they already are enjoying the services of Jason Kidd and possibly Jose Juan Barea. Therefore, Telfair will have to discard the name of the Mavs from his list and
have to settle for some other side.
