Minnesota Timberwolves pitching for Andrew Bynum; willing to part with their draft pick – NBA Update
The Minnesota Timberwolves are hot on the trail of Los Angeles Lakers star Andrew Bynum, it has recently emerged. The Los Angeles Lakers have always held their 7-foot centre in high regard and would supposedly refuse any offer the Timberwolves might make.
Still, the Timberwolves are giving it a go. A source familiar with the Minnesota Timberwolves revealed that the team’s General Manager David Kahn has already approached the Lakers and is working hard to get his man.
The Timberwolves are reportedly offering the Los Angeles Lakers their pick in this year’s NBA Draft as well as one more player. Minnesota won the 2nd overall pick in the draft lottery and are well placed to get either Derrick Williams or Enes Kanter, with the Cleveland Cavaliers expected to draft point guard Kyrie Irving as the first overall pick.
Derrick Williams is a talented and versatile player who is comfortable playing at small forward as well as power forward. Enes Kanter is a Turkish prodigy who came to the United States last year and is billed as a skilful big man adept at offense.
However, the Timberwolves might not be interested in either player as they already have two bright stars in the team playing the same positions. Kevin Love is the untouchable big man who averaged a staggering 15.2 rebounds as well as 20.2 points per game last season. There is simply no way the Timberwolves will move on their new found star.
At small forward the Timberwolves have another rising talent in the form of Michael Beasley. His form was also very impressive last season and Minnesota regard him as a part of their future.
But, they could part with him for Andrew Bynum. Bynum has developed into one of the better centres in the league and is absolutely dominant on the defensive end. He has also polished his offensive abilities during the stay with the Lakers. A partnership of Andrew Bynum and Kevin Love could indeed prove devastatingly effective if the move does take place.
With Andrew Bynum having expressed his annoyance at being a distant third option for the Kobe Bryant dominated Lakers offence, he could be pushing for a move.
David Kahn is reportedly offering the Timberwolves draft pick as well as Michael Beasley to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Andrew Bynum. The Lakers could certainly do with a good player at the small forward position. However the Lakers management, especially the organization’s executive vice President Jim Buss, are big fans of Bynum and have repeatedly refused to trade the bulky centre in the past.
Whatever happens, the future of the Timberwolves looks very promising and this is turning out to be a good summer for them. They have already signed their 2009 draft pick Ricky Rubio, who plays as point guard and would expect to add another talented youngster on draft night.
