Minnesota Timberwolves playing their cards better than Los Angeles Lakers - NBA Feature
With a track record of 16 NBA Championships and 31 Conference titles, the Los Angeles Lakers are usually termed as the role model franchise in conducting and implementing basketball operations. However, the recent decision of hiring
Mike Brown, as the new head coach to fill the shoes of hall of famer Phil Jackson, was a manifestation of how things are going haywire in the famed franchise.
Irrespective of the discussion, that Cleveland Cavaliers former coach Mike Brown was the best available option for Lakers, the management made a big mistake by not consulting about the decision with their ace player Kobe Bryant.
The five-time NBA champion is the best player in the team and a big reason for Lakers unyielding success for more than a decade. How successful will be the new coaching staff in the next season will be determined by the relationship
of Kobe with Mike.
After Phil decided to call it a day, Kobe had publically backed the Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw to take over the reins. However, Jim Buss, the son of the owner Jerry Buss, who in effect makes all the managerial decisions
at the franchise, went with the Brown option and that has reportedly not gone well with the Black Mamba.
Since Lakers appointed Brown, the veteran shooting guard has maintained silence, a signature sign of Kobe’s dissatisfaction with the front office. Last time, Kobe went quiet, was in 2007, when he wanted some whole scale changes
in the roster. Although Brown has been open that he and Kobe have met and all is well between the two, no official word has come from Kobe’s mouth yet.
In contrast to the Purple and the Gold, the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have entered the market for the sixth time in their history to search of a new head coach after parting ways with Kurt Rambis, have involved their best player
Kevin Love in the decision process. Love recently talked about his role in the whole process.
"I have definitely been asked by David Kahn what I thought about the situation, and I gave my two cents. I told them I think we need a coach to help us grow and win in tough situations and learn how to win. A guy who is going to
be able to work with young guys and go through the growing pains to help us become a better team.”
It might take years and constant hard work for the Timberwolves to dominate the team in purple and gold on the court. However, the twin cities franchise has definitely outplayed Lakers in conducting the decision of employing a
new head coach.
The Timberwolves have been actively pursuing many coaches, including the likes of the legendary Don Nelson and Larry Brown and Kevin revealed, he knew about each and every candidate
“There were a few names thrown out to me prior to the interview process, and they’ve all interviewed so far." Kevin said.
The President of Timberwolves David Kahn is looking to hire someone who can inculcate an aggressive mentality in the players and help the young talent on the roster to grow. The 22 year old Kevin’s idea of a head coach is pretty
much the same as David’s which puts the team management and their superstar on the same page.
