Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love claims he is the best power forward in the NBA
Kevin Love, the Minnesota Timberwolves talismanic star, has claimed that he is the best power forward in the NBA at present. The Timberwolves man has been scorching up the stats sheets for the last two seasons in Minnesota and
now says he is ready to claim the mantle of the best in his position in the league.
The star has certainly been a ray of hope in the otherwise dark lives of Minnesota Timberwolves fans. Whilst Minnesota finished at the bottom of the league last season, Love was still easily among the elite players in the NBA.
Now while talking to the ESPN1500, he has declared that he is indeed the best. Love says he believes in himself and that was all anyone required to reach the top. If his mentality was that of the best, the power forward saw himself
establishing himself in that position this season.
“I believe I'm the best '4' in the league. I think you have to believe that you're the best. I think Mohammad Ali even said, 'I was the greatest before I knew I was.' I think everybody needs to have that mindset. That's part of
winning the mind game from the very start. You have to believe it. You have to hold yourself accountable.”
Love was amazing for Minnesota last season. He won the league’s rebounding title and became a most prolific double-double force. His average of 20.2 points and 15.2 rebounds per game was enough to put most in the shade.
The forward though didn’t stop there. He has made a scintillating start to the NBA season 2011-2012 and his numbers are truly magnificent at 24.0 points per game and 14.9 rebounds per game. It’s this perpetual growth in his game
that has seen Love rise as a phenomenal force in the NBA and it is something the 6-foot-10 big man is perfectly aware of.
“I'm a much better player. Not only what I do physically, but my mind as well. My mind has grown. My game is a lot further along than it was in the past. I do feel like I'm a lot better and more active on the court.”
Some might look at Love’s claim of being the best in his position with some scepticism, but a closer inspection of the league would suggest that he isn’t far off the mark by too much. Two of the three legendary power forwards of
the 2000s in the NBA, Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan, can no longer put a claim in for the best in the business.
That leaves Love to contend with super star German and the NBA Finals MVP last season, Dirk Nowitzki. In terms of numbers, Love has performed better than Dirk so far this season. Other rivals for Love are perhaps Blake Griffin
of the Los Angeles Clippers, Zach Randolph of the Memphis Grizzlies and LaMarcus Aldridge from the Portland Trail Blazers.
While Randolph is out for nearly two months with a torn tendon in the right knee, Griffin and Aldridge are putting good numbers. The duo seem to lack the rebounding prowess that Love possesses, however just like the Wolves man,
they also have the ability to turn the game on its head all by themselves.
