Minnesota Twins Brian Duensing enjoying off-season, takes up philanthropy- MLB News
Minnesota Twins’ pitcher Brian Duensing is currently enjoying the holiday season at his home in Omaha, Nebraska. He will be with his wife and daughter McKenna who was born on January 5. This holiday season is even more special for Brian as it will be his
first as a father.
He recently expressed his views on various issues with the mlb.com ranging from the game to family life to his preparation for the upcoming season as well as philanthropic works that he engage in.
To a query about the timing of his preparation, as many baseball players start flexing some muscle around the holiday season, the left-handed pitcher said that he has already started some work in the field though it is not serious and for now he is just
playing catch for a few weeks now.
He says that he is currently not playing and enjoying his holidays. Quite obviously the weather in Omaha may not be very helpful at this time of the year.
‘’I've been playing catch for three weeks now, [starting in late November] -- nothing more than 120-130 feet. We went on vacation last week, so I took a week off, but I was throwing before that,’’ Briand told mlb.com.
Duensing says that he is feeling good and unlike the general trend, he is not feeling aches and pains this off-season. He feels good and says that it feels a bit like him being a new person.
‘’So everything feels good. It's actually kind of new to me. Usually, I have the offseason aches and pains, but everything feels good,’’ Brian said.
The 29-year-old also is engaged in philanthropic work and every year along with his wife Lisa adopts a family. Brian says that it is something that he really likes and the good work is done through the Salvation Army and a radio station.
‘’Every year Lisa and I adopt a family, which is something we really enjoy doing. We do it through a local radio station and the Salvation Army,’’ he said.
He is active in other community work as well and also regularly participates in the Minnesota Twins’ annual Winter Caravan.
The Twins organisation itself is associated with a number of noble causes. Target Field, the home of the Minnesota ball club, is the most environment friendly baseball park in the US and they also donate a lot of food and other useable that are not utilised
during the games.
It is good to know that Brian Duensing is healthier than usual this off-season and is looking forward to the upcoming 2013 season. It is also a great example for other ball players in particular and able people in general to follow Brian’s suit and be active
in helping those less fortunate and  in need.
