Minnesota Twins’ Joe Mauer ready for comeback in 2012 season – MLB News
Minnesota Twins, their fans and especially the batting camp has good news from the 28-year-old left-handed batter, Joe Mauer, who removed all speculations swirling in baseball about his unavailability for the 2012 season.
It has been reported that Mauer might have not been able to be ready for the 2012 season due to multiple injuries, but on Friday, Mauer came into the lime-light to remove misconceptions, dismiss rumours and provide hope to his fans.
"I'm healthy, I'm happy," Mauer said. "I can rule out crazy things I've heard like Lyme disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus. I think we have heard it all. I don't have any of those things."
As in the last season, Mauer player only 82 games due to some problems what team officials said that time was mere leg weakness. However, it had great impact over the performance posted by the 7-year veteran slugger. Mauer made only 30 RBIs and 38 runs in
296 at-bats with a batting average of .287.
Mauer remain under consistent problems throughout the season, as first he had a viral infection, which then turned into season ending pneumonia in mid-September. It was an equally severe problem for the American League central franchise, Twins, who has given
him an 8-year $184 million contract extension before the start of the 2011 season.
Joe was aware of his bad performance and expressed his wish many times in the media that he should have performed differently. However, his ambition to get his momentum back in the 2012 season will be considered valuable among his long list of fans.
Twins played an equally bad season, as they lost 99 games. With only 63 wins, the Twins were at the last position in the American League East. However, the entire failure cannot be associated with Mauer.
"We've had kind of a tough year collectively," Mauer said. "I think when that happens, you just try to right that ship. I do not think (my teammates) really knew what was going on. Maybe that was part of the frustration, too."
As Mauer has consistently visited a renowned clinic in Rochester, the fans were getting a hint of seriousness of the problem, but the lefty provided them with hope issuing his statement on Friday.
