Minnesota Twins’ Kyle Gibson, Nate Roberts raring to go into 2013 season- MLB News
Minnesota Twins’ Kyle Gibson will be attending Spring Training after the pitcher showed his fitness during the Arizona Fall League. The pitcher, who was drafted in 2009 by the Twins, had a mixed bag in the Fall League.
Kyle started quite well in a league considered to be hitter friendly. He only gave away one run in 10 innings in two starts, striking-out 16. Gibson finished with the figures of 3-2 record with a 5.40 ERA in over 23 innings.
The 6ft 6in pitcher had Tommy John Surgery on his elbow in November, 2011. The 25-year-old was a part of the US team in the World University Championship in 2008, which the US won. He attained success at college level baseball, winning many accolades including
an All-Star appearance for Indiana.
There is some more good news for the pitcher from Greenfield, Indiana as the Twins’ general manager hinted that the pitcher will likely be a part of the Twins’ pitching unit. Ryan was pleased to see that the pitcher was not getting back into his groove and
his fitness issues taking a back seat.
"I'm pleased that he's healthy," he said. "That was the whole objective, to get him back on the mound and get him some work. We're pleased to get him up around 70-80 innings [cumulative, for the year]."
The pitcher himself is quite happy with his return thus far. Kyle further said that he is working on various aspects of his game to improve his pitching quality.
"My first two starts, my fastball command was really good, and that's why I was able to have the success I did," Gibson said in an interview. "But my last few starts, my fastball command hasn't been there. So I'm working on things, but health wise, I feel
great."
Meanwhile, outfielder Nate Roberts has been performing exceedingly well in the Arizona Fall League. The 23-year-old has an amazing average of .446 and equally impressive on-base percentage of .565 during the AFL. The batter has 29 hits with 15 RBI’s and
three home-runs with just 65 at-bats.
Nate made a comeback to competitive baseball in May this year after he was forced out by an injury in July 2011. He played the regular season with Class A Beloit, where he had a .299 batting average in 76 games.
Terry Ryan was also optimistic about the future growth of Roberts. He said that the outfielder should be moving up the ranks quickly. By the look of things, the future for these two appears quite bright. They will have to make sure that they keep their fitness
and play well as the Twins will be looking to dominate in the upcoming season.
