Minnesota Twins: Regular Season Results – MLB August 2011
After ending the month of July 2011 on a positive note, Minnesota Twins were looking for another strong period of thirty days to improve their position in the Wild Card standings. However, that did not turn out to be the case as they experienced a humiliating
loss on August 2 at the hands of Los Angeles Angels in the opening game of their three match series.
Looking to come back into the series, the Twins put up a much better show in Game 2 as they scored 11 runs to set up a deciding Game 3. Despite having the momentum on their side, the Twins failed to execute their plan in the final game of the three match
series. The Angels took complete advantage of their rivals’ unforced errors as they clinched the series with an impressive 7-1 victory.
Twins continued to struggle to find their form in their next series against Chicago White Sox as well. With 29 wins, the Twins had an outstanding record against Chicago White Sox going into the series. But as it turned out, they failed to win a single game
in the series. Chicago demolished the Twins 7-0 in the final game of the three match series to end their losing streak against Twins.
Team Manager Gardenhire was clearly disappointed with his side’s effort and he said, “we did not play worth a flip. You know you're going to have those battles with a lineup like that. And unfortunately we couldn't finish them off."
Twins continued their poor form in the series against Boston Red Sox as well as they were outplayed in almost every aspect of the game by a better team. Although there were some good individual performances, the Twins could not play well as a team. Restoring
some of the lost pride in the third game of the series, they finally managed to get a win. Joe Nathan came back from an injury to rescue his side.
"Just with the surgery and everything, the bumps in the road, I think it made it mean even more," said Nathan after the end of play.
Suffering another series loss against Cleveland Indians, the Twins were sent further down the American League Wild Card standings. Although they managed to clinch a series victory against Detroit Tigers, they never looked to be in their comfort zone. Not
winning a single game in their four-match series against Baltimore Orioles, the month of August 2011 proved to be disaster for the Twins.
Minnesota ended the August with another series loss against the Chicago White Sox. Gardenhire, the team manager admitted that his team’s performance had been below par throughout the month and he aimed to bring improvement in the results with hard work.
