Minnesota Twins: Regular Season Results – MLB September 2011
Short of confidence, Minnesota Twins were looking to get things back on track with a strong performance in the first game of three match series against Los Angeles Angles on September 2. With only seven wins in their last 27 appearances they certainly needed
to play out of their skins to change the course of their campaign.
Rising to the occasion, Carl Pavano grabbed a win for the first time in ten starts since the All Star break. Trevor Plouffe also put his hand up as he homered to help the Twins have four loaded-base walks in an impressive 13-5 victory over the Angles.
"Nothing replaces the feeling you get from a win, but I didn't see it as a drought," Pavano said. "I mean, I pitched plenty of games where I was good enough to win."
Team Manager, Gardenhire was very pleased with the way his team stuck together in difficult situation during the contest and he aimed to turn things around with more aggressive approach. However, the Twins failed to capitalise on the psychological advantage
as they were crushed in the next two games to let their rivals take the series 2-1.
Although Minnesota Twins had a very decent record against Chicago White Sox going into their next series, they failed to live up the expectations. Losing three out of four games, they were outplayed in almost all areas of the match up. Results from their
next series against the Detroit Tigers were not any different as they were outclassed in each game. Punishing the Twins in game three, the Tigers earned the top spot in the Wild Card standings.
“I felt like high-fiving Victor -- he was making outs like crazy for us," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire praised their opponent’s effort. "Apparently, it takes a great hitter to make eight outs in one game, because I've never seen anything like that."
The Twins continued to struggle to find their lost form in their series against Kansas City, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners. Experiencing 11 straight losses, they clearly looked out of sorts. The season seemed to be ending the same
way as it started for them.
Minnesota finally avoided another sweep when they clinched a narrow 3-2 victory over Seattle Mariners. Even Gardenhire admitted that his team was feeling the pressure. Despite all the negativity surrounding the Twins, they managed to end the month on a positive
note as they beat the Kansas City Royals 2-1 in a three-game series, thanks to an outstanding performance by Carl Pavano.
The Twins struggled throughout the month and their season was not heading to a positive conclusion. The team seemed to struggle against most of the other stronger teams. Their offence was just not getting the job done for them.
