Minnesota Twins: Regular Season Results-Performances – MLB April 2011
Minnesota Twins made a poor start to the regular season. Although their win-loss record in the spring season was quite decent, they failed to run on the same lines as the regular season started in April 2011.
In their first match against Toronto Blue Jays, the Twins experienced a humiliating 3-13 defeat at Rogers Centre in Toronto. Minnesota managed to get their first run on the board at the end of seventh inning. Blue Jays, on the other hand, scored freely as
they dented the opposition team’s confidence levels.
"We didn't follow the plan very well pitching," Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said. "They swing the bats and if you keep throwing the ball out over the plate they're going to kill you. We didn't do a very good job of that tonight."
Losing the three match series 1-2 against Toronto Blue Jays, Twins certainly fell short of expectations due to some scattered game play. They had a very similar start to their series against New York Yankees as well, going down 3-4 in a competitive game.
Although the team put up a brilliant fight, they were outplayed by the Yankees in finer details of the game. Twins managed to clinch only one win in their three match series against Yankees as their disastrous run during the regular season continued.
From April 8 to 10, Twins suffered another series loss against the Oakland Athletics. Managing only four runs in their three games, they clearly felt the heat. Despite clinching the first game with a 2-1 score-line, the Twins made critical unforced errors
in the following two games to let Oakland win the series. The Twins struggled throughout the series as their confidence lacked and their offence did not get going at critical times.
Minnesota Twins were unable to find their form against Kansas City and Tampa Bay as well as they secured only two victories in six games. The Twins performance was seriously lacking and they found themselves on a losing streak at a very early part of the
regular season. Minnesota’s manager admitted that his team was struggling.
"We've been struggling a little bit lately," Duensing said. "We got that win today and hopefully we'll start rolling."
Restoring some of the lost pride, Twins secured a thumping 2-0 series victory over Cleveland Indians. Justin Morneau's guided the Twins to a 10-3 victory against the Indians.
However, the Twins were unable to maintain their good form afterwards and they experienced five straight defeats to end the month on an anxious note. The Twins will be looking to improve their performance and put in a decent effort to build confidence within
the team if they are to survive the regular season.
