Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays play to 6-All tie – MLB Spring Training
Minnesota Twins tied with Tampa Bay Rays 6-6 at the Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida on Monday, April 2 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Justin Morneau seems to be quite comfortable with his newly assigned position. After missing much of the last two seasons, Morneau is showing the comfort level he is feeling right now as designated hitter. The striker has given some considerable results
since the start of 2012 Spring Training and he will be looking to take his excellent form into the regular season to help the Twins make it to the playoffs.
"The big thing was just to see him be able to go out there and play (first base), manager Ron Gardenhire said in a post game interview. "Then we saw the one play (earlier in the spring) where he dives over there by the dugout, and I'm going: `This can't
be good.' So we talked a little more and said let's just stick to the DH. He's comfortable doing it. He's been healthy all spring with no issues."
Tampa Bay Rays’ starter David Price played a meaningful role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he pitched four shutout innings for his team. Price, who struggled with his control last season, has been scheduled to play a game against the New York Yankees.
He will be looking to perform on regular basis to cement his place on Rays’ roster. Price went through his four innings with just 42 pitches on Monday night.
Price posted one of his best MLB seasons in 2010 when he went 19-6 with an impressive 2.72. His record dropped to 12-13 in the following season. The 26 year old will be hoping to get things back on track to earn a huge pay day at the end of the season.
For the Twins, Francisco Liriano put up a fine show, striking out seven in five innings. However, the Rays still managed to get three runs and seven hits off him. Twins’ hitters Danny Valencia, Lance Ray and Luke Hughes made valuable contributions with the
bat.
