Minnesota Twins annihilate Detroit Tigers 8-2 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins annihilated the Detroit Tigers 8-2 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday, April 4 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers struggled to execute their game plan in Game 2 of the series and they continued their form in the finale. Twins, on the other hand, took complete advantage of the situation to post their first series win of the season. It will be extremely important
for the Twins to continue their good work in the upcoming games to win back their fans’ hearts.
Tigers who dominated their American League Central Division rivals in every aspect of the game in the opener were unable to come up with the winning formula in the finale. Despite putting up a brave fight, Jim Leyland and his men were unable to cross the
finish line. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can learn from their mistakes start their next series on a bright note.
"They did all the hitting today. I know it's early and we don't want to keep saying that, but we'll turn it around," Hunter said in a post game interview.
Starting pitcher Rick Porcello paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he allowed six hits and three runs in five plus innings to take his first loss of the season. Relief pitcher Brayan Villarreal also struggled to control his sliders and
fastballs and ended up giving five runs on four hits.
"I know the expectations outside the clubhouse aren't the greatest, but everybody in here, we believe in each other and know what we're capable of," Pelfrey said.
"I said, 'I'm not done. I've been a horse my whole life. I want to get back to that. I'm going back out,'" Pelfrey said with a smile on his face. "He said, 'OK, I trust you. Go back out.' So I appreciated the opportunity."
For the Twins, starter Mike Pelfrey had a great outing as he conceded just two runs in five plus innings to grab his first win of the season. The Twins will definitely get a boost to their confidence as they managed to dominate the Detroit Tigers.
