Minnesota Twins beat Boston Red Sox 5-3 to end road trip with series win - MLB Update
The Minnesota Twins are getting in their grove after a relatively slow start in the season and now stand at a 16-15 winning record after defeating the Boston Red Sox 5-3 in the series finale at Fenway Park on Thursday, May 9, 2013.
It also helped the team in ending the three city road trip that had 10 games on an even keel. This was the second four match series win in two years for the Twins.
It was quite an amazing birthday for rookie Oswaldo Arcia who not only scored a triple in the fifth but also hit the game winning two-run home-run in the top of the sixth.
Oswaldo got a fan in the Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire. He thought that watching Oswaldo was fun, particularly his swing of the bat.
"He's a fun kid to watch with the bat," Gardenhire said. "Watching him come up here and swing the bat is a lot of fun."
The 22-year-old was happy at the achievement and was not sure how to explain the feelings he experienced.
"I'm happy right now. I don't know how to explain it, but I'm just happy," Arcia said.
The rookie has just played in 18 games and already has an impressive .313 batting average. He has so far hit three home-runs and has batted in one run.
The Red Sox were able to score in three innings but were unable to score more than a single run. They had the lead in the sixth when the Twins’ scored four runs. They were aided by the throwing error by John Lackey as well.
For the Minnesota ballclub, the starting pitcher duties were performed by Kevin Correia. He picked up his fourth win for the season as he gave away three runs on a total of nine hits in over five innings.
Kevin was pleased by his performance and thought that even though he gave away some hits with two outs, he was happy about the way he performed against the hottest team this season.
"I wasn't really in trouble, but I just gave up some two-out hits with a couple bad pitches at the wrong time," Correia said. "Against a team like that, I'll take it. They've been the hottest team in baseball pretty much."
The bats remained silent from both sides after the sixth when the Red Sox’s Daniel Nava scored an RBI single.
It was a good road trip for the Twins as they were able to gain some momentum and locked their horns against some of the strongest teams in all of Major League Baseball.
The platform seems to be set for them to take on their opponents and perform to their potential in home conditions now.
