Minnesota Twins beat Chicago White Sox 5-3 to sweep away series - MLB News
The Minnesota Twins are turning it around nicely after they were 3-7 at the very start of the season. Now having an 8-7 winning record and a winning streak of four games, the Twins seem to have found some new confidence in their abilities.
The latest win came against the Chicago White Sox at the latter’s ballpark. The Twins won the game 5-3 on Sunday, April 21, 2013. The signs are good for the Twins who completed the sweep of the White Sox as the same team had beaten them fourteen games to
four in the last season.
The Minnesota ballclub is in second spot at the moment in the American League Central and is only one game behind the current leaders Kansas City Royals. Manager Ron Gardenhire is in no mood of getting too excited just yet as it is very early in the season
and things can be great or go AWOL as the season goes on.
"It's only two games," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "If this was August and we had a lead on these guys, I'd love it. But it's early. We've seen a lot of things happen at this ballpark. We've had some success, but we've also been whacked here pretty good."
The game was the first win for pitcher Scott Diamond this season. In the six innings that he pitched, he only gave two runs away with six hits and one of these runs was earned. He currently stands at a 1-1 win-loss record with a 3.85 ERA.
Scott was happy with the way things have so far been moving and said that the team is taking it one game at a time.
"We're having fun with it and I think we're probably taking it a little easier right now and taking it one game at a time and having a little fun with it, too," said Diamond.
He was confident that the team can defy expectations as long as it continues to execute the plans that have been laid.
“As long as we can execute our pitches and continue to work, I think we're gonna be better than everybody thinks we are," Scott said.
The real difference was made when Josh Willingham who went long with two bases loaded and the Twins moved well ahead of the White Sox. There was no more scoring by either of the teams once the seventh innings came to an end. However, there wasn’t much of
a need from the Twins’ point of view.
There were some errors in the field by the Twins that are certain masked by the win. The team will be looking to concentrate on the field in order to win more consistently.
For now, the Twins have made a good recovery and one hopes that they can continue the good work further into the season.
